Everything the cheap viewers skip

Foldout is a superset of what shipping JSON viewers do, with the rough edges fixed and the Safari-only gaps filled.

Collapsible tree, both formats

JSON and XML compile to one tree with disclosure triangles, indent guides, and syntax highlighting. Most viewers do JSON only — Foldout treats XML as a first-class citizen.

Search that actually finds things

Filter, highlight, count matches, and jump between them with the keyboard. Type a leading $ to switch the same box into JSONPath and query the structure directly.

Big files don't freeze

Bucketed rendering keeps huge arrays and deep objects smooth — a 3,400-item array paints in about a millisecond instead of locking up the tab.

Smart value enrichment

JWTs decode inline, base64 and URL-encoded strings expand on tap, and oversized numbers are preserved losslessly instead of being rounded by the browser.

Local files, not just web pages

Safari extensions can't open files on disk. Foldout's native companion app can — open a .json or .xml straight from Files or Finder into the same tree.

Copy, diff, export

Copy any value, path, or subtree in one tap. Compare two documents with a structural diff, or export to YAML, CSV, and TypeScript types.

Built for Safari, where it's hardest

Firefox shows JSON as a tree out of the box. Chrome and Safari don't — which is why JSON-formatter extensions have millions of installs. Safari's gap is the least served and the hardest to fill, so that's exactly where Foldout aims.

1

The mobile experience nobody built

Chrome extensions don't run on phones, and the Safari apps treat mobile as an afterthought. Foldout is designed tap-first: real touch targets, a native share sheet, readable on a phone screen.

2

One purchase, no games

The paid Safari incumbent paywalls features and still ships a buggy 5 MB editor. Foldout is one small download, one price, no subscription, no in-app purchase, no ads.

3

Your data stays put

Everything runs on-device. No network calls, no uploads, no account. The data you inspect never leaves your hardware.
